Britain’s got both talent and Nancy

In a reality-packed weekend fourteen year old George Sampson won £100,000 in the Britain’s Got Talent final on Saturday night, and over on BBC1 Jodie Prenger fought-off tough competition to triumph as Nancy in I’d Do Anything.

Jodie now has a Nancy contract to star alongside three different Olivers who are to share their part, in Cameron Mackintosh’s musical Oliver! due to begin next year. As well as the cash George will be performing in front of Prince Charles at the Royal Variety performance later on in the year, and something tells me this is just the beginning for the young break-dancer.

The ultimate bet

A man has won the ultimate bet at the weekend – his life. Two years ago doctors told 58-year-old Jon Matthews that he wouldn’t make it to Christmas, as he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that hardly anyone survives from. But, after living through to the Christmas, and feeling not too bad on it, he thought he’d take a bit of a gamble, and bet £100 with William Hill on living beyond 25 months (the longest doctors knew anyone to live after diagnosis).

Yesterday, after 25 months and one week, Mr Matthews defied the 50-1 odds, and picked up his £5000 winnings. When asked what he was going to spend the money on, he replied he’s giving half of it to the MacMillan cancer trust, and he’s going to spend the rest on “booze and fags.” Good on him.

In other news…

* In an incredibly strange celeb pairing – Mike Tyson was seen snogging none other than BB’s Aisleyne in Chinawhite’s at the weekend…truly bizarre
* Top designer to the stars Yves Saint Laurent has died aged 71, dying at his home in France on Sunday after a long illness.
* For all Apprentice fans – only two weeks left – and the BBC surely is going to milk the final couple of weeks this time. On this evening at 10.45pm is ThE Apprentice: The Final Five, a show meeting the final five’s friends and families, and taking a look inside their houses.
* It all went mental on the tubes on Saturday night, as hundreds of people partied hard to commemorate the last night that alcohol will be allowed on the tubes. Six stations were closed, including Liverpool Street, where over 500 people stayed drinking and dancing until past midnight – containment here was the only option – making it one of the most random parties London has seen in a while.

RUMOUR MILL
- Kurt Cobain’s ashes stolen?
- SATC sequel planned already?

CLIPS
Liverpool Street station busier than ever...
