Record Divorce for Henry

Thierry Henry could face the biggest ever divorce payment for a footballer after formally splitting from his wife today.

The Barcelona star signed off a 'quickie' divorce from English wife, Claire Merry in central London, amid speculation his £25m fortune will lead to the biggest ever settlement. The pair shared a six-bedroom home in Hampstead, north London, which he bought five years ago for £5.95m while playing for Arsenal.

The couple met when they starred together in television ads for Renault Clio cars in which Henry used his "va va voom" catchphrase. Henry announced he was leaving Claire in June, just before his transfer to Spain, where he is reportedly paid £130,000 a week.

The last high-profile divorce case for a footballer in England was Henry's former Arsenal team-mate Ray Parlour. In 2004 the Court of Appeal agreed that Parlour's ex-wife Karen should be awarded £406,500 a year, as well as two properties. Parlour had originally offered his former wife £120,000 a year, but judges ruled that was not enough.

Winehouse gets higher

The anguished pleas of Amy Winehouse's in-laws - who asked the public to boycott her records in a bid to save her life - have fallen on deaf ears. Secret figures that reveal 23-year-old Amy's records are selling like "hot cakes" ever since her drugs scandals.

Her award-winning LP Back To Black has shot up to No.2 - from No.8 before her drugs collapse on August 8 - her new single Tears Dry On Their Own is selling well, and she is top of the UK Radio Airplay Chart. Tonight she is up for a prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

Yesterday, organisers insisted that Amy - who has famously cancelled a string of gigs - would be singing at the posh bash at London's Grosvenor She and hubby Blake Fielder-Civil, 25, jetted in to Gatwick airport yesterday in preparation for the event, and headed straight to a TGI Friday's restaurant in West London for some grub.

Last week, Blake’s Parents, Giles and Georgette Civil begged Amy's fans to boycott her music so she and Blake would be forced to face up to their drug addiction. They fear if one of them dies the other will kill themselves. Headmaster Giles said: "Perhaps it is time to stop buying records. That affects the record company and they might take action. The record company... should make them both go to a rehab unit they can't get out of."

But Amy's cabbie dad Mitch hit back saying the Civil’s were "clutching at straws". In fact, her troubles have only increased demand for her music. In July, Amy sold 88,273 albums - by the end of August she'd sold 102,084. She also sold 6,039 copies of Tears Dry On Their Own.

A music industry expert said: "We often see that any kind of scandal surrounding an artist will send sales sky high. Amy's album has shot up the charts since the stories about her troubles. She has a new single out which will boost album sales to a degree, but that won't account for the whole increase. Her album has clearly been selling like hot cakes since the stories about her troubles."

Pregnancy smoking shock

Thousands of mums-to-be are smoking and drinking to cope with the stress of pregnancy, a new poll reveals. One in 20 turns to cigarettes and one in 25 to alcohol, according to the baby charity Tommy's. That means almost 60,000 babies born each year are affected - 32,900 by smoking and 25,200 by booze. Jane Brewin, head of Tommy's, said: "These results are shocking and show that there are two key questions that we need to address.

"Why are women feeling so stressed in their pregnancies that they're resorting to actions that are potentially detrimental to their health, and that of their unborn baby? And why are these two vices being chosen time and again, even though the dire consequences of smoking and drinking excessively in pregnancy have been so well documented?

"We need to get to the root of the problem by encouraging women to open up and discuss their problems in pregnancy and by ensuring they are given the best level of support and information to help them stop smoking and drinking." The survey earlier revealed that 90 per cent of women feel stressed during pregnancy.
