Transformers wins at MTV Movie Awards

Transformers won the top prize at the MTV Movie Awards held on Sunday night at Universal Studios.

Despite the huge fire at the studios, which destroyed several soundstages and buildings, the ceremony continued as planned.

Handing out awards based on fans votes gave Johnny Depp two awards for best comedic performance in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, and best villain for Sweeney Todd. Will Smith won best male role for I Am Legend. Ellen page won best female role for Juno. The lifetime achievement award went to Adam Sandler.

Despite being nominated in five different categories, Superbad went home empty handed, as did Enchanted and Knocked Up.

Cash-strapped shoppers turn to the web

Shoppers are turning to the internet as they try to beat the credit crunch. A record £14.7 billion was spent on the internet by Britains last year, up 35% on the year before.

As the cost of broadband falls, and internet shopping becomes easier and more convenient, more and more people are turning to the web to purchase their goods. Less people are physically going out shopping, as they feel they don’t have the money given the current climate, but it’s easier to turn to the internet, when they’re browsing facebook, youtube, and their other favourite sites – shopping sites are just a few simple clicks away.

Online shopping is expected to reach £44.9 billion by 2012 according to reports, and one in three music and video purchases are now done so via the web. This is due to become two in three by 2012 as the WWW slowly takes over our entire lives.
