Javier Bardem also won best supporting actor for his role as a hitman in the film, thanking his family in Spanish. All of the acting prizes went to Europe, with UK stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Tilda Swinton named best actor and best supporting actress respectively. Hollywood it ain't, Kenneth

HOLLYWOOD star Kenneth Branagh turns up for a world premiere – at a tiny village cinema in an old SHED.
A red carpet was laid out as the actor walked between two end-of-terrace houses to the 23-seat La Charrette, set up in a former railway wagon.
His movie Alien Love Triangle was launched at the back garden venue in Gorseinon, South Wales, to mark the closure of one of Britain’s smallest cinemas.

A Hollywood-style spotlight lit up the sky outside the tiny venue as Branagh, in tuxedo and bow tie, swept into the village in a limousine.
The 47-year-old star, carrying a box of popcorn, said: “This is fantastic, just like the street I grew up on so I feel completely at home. It is a symbol for why people go to the cinema.”
