End of an Era
BBC programme Grange Hill has been axed after 30 years of running. The show which has dealt with many gritty storylines, and been the career starting point for so many of today’s TV stars, no longer fits in with the corporation’s move towards age-targeted children’s channels. The BBC stated the issues dealt with in the high school drama are no longer suitable for a new look CBBC’s target audience of six to 12 year olds.

Producers of the show, Lime Pictures, have been asked by BBC bosses to rework the final series, due to got out in the summer, to be more suitable for a younger audience. The new series will focus on characters from a six to fourteen age bracket and will be set in creative-learning centre called the Grange. Despite the changes it will only run for one series. The show, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary tomorrow, has apparently become less relevant to children because school is no longer the be-all and end-all of their lives.

Britney is Out!
CHAOTIC scenes surrounded BRITNEY SPEARS after she was freed from a mental ward last night.
Fans feared for the troubled pop star as she drove haphazardly round Los Angeles in her black Mercedes.
Her parents JAMIE and LYNNE are furious she has been released so early and have issued this statement:
"As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe.
"We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk.
"There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded.
"We ask only that the court's orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted."
But she was spotted driving towards her home in Malibu. Then she swapped places with a minder who took the wheel.
Later the car turned round to head along Sunset Boulevard in the direction of her Hollywood house. At one stage Britney clambered out and walked slowly in front of photographers.
The singer then got back into her car and headed towards a Berverley Hills hotel, where she was later met by boyfriend, ADNAM GHALIB.
The snapper was then seen driving out of the hotel with Britney ducked down in the passenger seat, heading towards her lawyer's office.
